Today‘s relevance in our days pharmaceutical industry is widely developed and people’s everyday life joys are being dampened by newly emerging routine take a couple or even a dozen pills every day for their illnesses.

If their treatment course is not too long there usually are no problems we can easily remember that we must take our pills for two to five days. However, if the treatment course is longer things take a turn for worse. Every day we are rushing somewhere, we are experiencing stress and that’s why “little details” like medicine pills just seem to slip our minds. On the flip side, sometimes we, without even being fully woken up, just mechanically take a pill and forget that we have done that. That’s why we take another one. At that point, we’re lucky if the medicine is not strong.

Taking in bulk is not an option. Not all pills can be used at once. Most medicine needs to be ingested separately - unless using the pills at the same time is prescribed by your doctor. True, this way is not very convenient, however, it is impossible to study how every single medicine in the world could interact with each other. This is the reason why ingesting “literally” handfuls of pills at the same time can cause unexpected effects in the very first treatment stage.

Mass-produced drugs ensure their conditional cheap price and high availability, though they come with their problems and restrictions. One of the biggest problems in the world is incorrect medicine usage, which creates these consequences:

  • Overdosing and related side effects. In the USA alone, in 2015 there were 44693 deaths caused by incorrect medicine usage and 253017 severe reactions to the drug cases, where people have been hospitalized

  • Suicides by drug

It is unclear how widespread is incorrect drug usage: it is considered that only 10 percent of adverse medicinal reactions are uncovered percent of adverse medicinal reactions are uncovered.

COVID-19

CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019

With the onset of the deadly COVID19 virus, patients with tuberculosis fall into the HIGHEST risk area, where mortality from COVID19 can be extremely high. It is a responsibility for yourself and others to accelerate the creation of a personalized 3D technology medicine at an affordable price for all, to help our society to overcome deadly diseases.

Our mission

Create 3D medicine printing technology for the pharmaceutical market and commercialize it. Our purpose is to create the technology and not a new drug substance.

Problem:

At this point in time, classical pharmaceutical technologies are incapable to produce individualized pills. They are unable to insert more than 4 active substances into a single pill or a capsule, they cannot regulate active substances dosage.

Our solution:

Connect 3D printing technology possibilities and scientists with patient needs to create personalized medication.

During the project it is planned to create 3D printing based drug manufacturing technology intended for personalized medicine. 3D printing technology will allow us to produce drugs intended for personalized usage. Each series of pills can be manufactured individually for any person. Pills like these will feature innovative characteristics like:

    •  Pills will have precise active substance dose, tailored for a specific individual patient

    •  Pills could have multiple different active substances, intended for a specific individual patient

    •  3D printing technology also allows to create pills with controlled pharmacokinetics

3D printing technology also allows to create pills with controlled pharmacokinetics - it is possible to manufacture a pill, which would contain a precise dosage which would function throughout the day - it would not matter what kind of illness you have - you would only need to ingest a single pill a day. This would also work with composite medicine - when a person needs to use drugs with multiple active substances they can all be merged into one pill and throughout the day.

About us

Vivus Lab team unites the researchers. It has created the start-up LayerPharma, which has submitted a project to receive support from the EU Structural Funds. Support will only be used for research required for the development of 3D printing technology for medicine. Vivuslab team start-up is looking for funds to finance their project, as the EU support does not fully cover the project costs, so that’s why we ask for your help.

R&D definition includes three types of activities: research, applied research, and experimental development.

Main features

During the project a new technology would be developed that would bring the world closer to the implementation of the idea of personalized medicine. The developed technology would not quickly replace the existing mass-produced technology, but could be applied in specialized hospitals, where a large number of active substances is not required, but precise individual dosages for patients are needed. The developed technology would also be used for researching new drugs. We also hope to bring the arrival of personalized medicine closer to everyday healthcare practices. If such technology were to spread in the future, it would be possible to print only the combination of medicines needed for each patient, which would be a huge contribution to healthcare. Every pharmacy could have such a 3D printer and if a customer came with a doctor's prescription, an appropriate pill would be made on site. Vivuslab team believes that this project is really important and socially responsible as it brings personalized medicine ideas closer to real life. Widespread use of personalized medicines would significantly improve the quality of treatment for some diseases, reduce the number of

deaths from adverse reactions, and reduce the number of adverse drug reactions.
